Deathwing Dreadnought

Deathwing Dreadnought

What a marathon painting this guy was! Maybe close to 30 hours all up I think, and I haven’t even done a base for it yet, (planning something special for the base).

I magnetized the arms, first unit I have ever magnetized, but now that I’ve done it, won’t be the last!

Overall I am happy with the result, the lightning effect on the claws was new to me and I just made up a technique to do it as a went along.

  • Metal as normal, (base, black wash, highlight)
  • Thick coats of blue shade from the Citadel glaze range (Guilliman Blue), takes a while to dry and precarious angles and mounts were required to get it to dry in the right direction
  • Paint the lightning free hand with white/water mix, tiny brush and probably 2-3 coats required…. this is the hardest part
  • Thin layer of the glaze again towards the tips of the claws
